STONEHEAD MOULD MAKING
Ian has been making organic rubber and silicon rubber moulds for quite a while now as you can see from the small selection of his mould store below together with his trusty old Vulcanizing Mould Press.
Mould making is a very delicate process and involves placing the master pieces between two halves of an un- vulcanized mould set in such a way that when the mould is formed and the channels are cut, the poured moulten metal will flow from the center entry port spun out into the voids by the centrifugal forces generated by the mould rotation in the casting machine
Below is a picture of an organic rubber mould showing the flow channels and the smaller vent cuts which allow the air to escape. Also there is a picture of the two sizes of mould can that Ian uses.
.... a short video will be uploaded later so keep watching.
